Sean T. McDonnell DDS
Dr. McDonnell is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. He joined Dr. Barnes’ practice in July of 2007 after completing a three-year tour of duty in the United States Navy. While in the Navy, Dr. McDonnell served for a year on a Marine Corps base in Parris Island South Carolina and for two years at a large naval hospital in Bethesda Maryland. He was the head of the Pediatric Dental Clinic in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Dentistry Department at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda Maryland. While at Parris Island, he served as the Head of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the Marine Corps Air Station. For his dedicated service, Dr. McDonnell received two distinguished service medals: the Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal for the care he provided to the Marines and their children stationed at Parris Island and the Navy Achievement Medal for care provided to the children and special-needs family members of all the branches of the U.S. Military, civilian government officials, and dignitaries of foreign governments stationed in Washington DC.
Dr. McDonnell completed his pediatric dental residency in 2004 at the University of Florida, where he served as Chief Resident. In 2002, he received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. While in dental school, Dr. McDonnell was the President of his class, a member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon dental honor society, a member of the Psi Omega dental fraternity, the pediatric dentistry class representative and the recipient of the American Society of Pediatric Dentistry’s award for Excellence in Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. McDonnell received his bachelor of Science Degree in Biochemistry from Georgetown University in Washington DC. He competed on Georgetown University’s swim team and represented Georgetown University twice at the Big East Championships.
Dr. McDonnell grew up in Washington DC and Orlando FL. He is married and has four beautiful children: Claire, Colin, Thomas and Patrick. His wife, Judy, is a general dentist. They met, got married, and had their first child while in dental school at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond VA and went on to serve in the Navy together until July of 2007.

Dr. McDonnell served in the United States Navy for 3 years where he received 2 Distinguised Service Medal awards.

Dr. McDonnell was stationed at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda MD.
