Daniel P. Barnes DDS

Dr. Barnes received his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree (DDS) from Loyola University Dental School Chicago in 1983. He practiced General Dentistry in Chicago and Fort Lauderdale for 4 years before returning to the University of Florida Shands Hospital to complete his residency in Pediatric Dentistry in 1989. He is a Fellow and Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.

Dr. Barnes is a 1979 honors graduate of Saint Mary’s University in Minnesota with a degree in Biology. While at Saint Mary’s he was Secretary of the Senior Class, President of Delta Sigma Delta Biology Society as well as a finalist for St. Mary’s Senior of the year.

Dr. Barnes has been practicing Pediatric Dentistry in Volusia County since 1989. He served as President of both the Florida Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the Florida Society of Pediatric Dentistry. In 1998 he received the Florida Distinguished Service Award from Project Dentist Care for his work with the migrant worker community. He received the Presidents Award from the Volusia County Dental Society for his work in co-founding the San Jose’ Mission in Pierson Florida in 1997. In 1998 the Arch diocese of Orlando presented Dr. Barnes with a plaque for his work with the migrant community in Volusia County. He has been a part time faculty member at the University of Florida Department of Pediatric Dentistry since 1989.

Dr. Barnes grew up in Chicago Illinois. He is married to Lori who is also a dentist. She completed her training at Loyola Dental School in Chicago and the University of Florida Dental School in Gainesville. She taught in the Operative Dentistry Department at the University of Florida and was the first graduate of the Geriatric Fellowship there. They have two children, Mikala and Matthew.

Dr. Barnes presented his lecture entitled "Pediatric Dentistry for the Family Practitioner" to over 200 physicians at the Halifax Hospital sponsored continuing education symposium in 1994 and 1995. He is a part time instructor at the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the University Of Florida.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dr. Barnes presented his lecture entitled "Pot Pourri of Pediatric Dentistry" to over 300 physicians at a continuing education symposium sponsored by The Nemours Foundation in Cape Cod in 1998.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dr. Barnes was co-founder of the San Jose' Dental Mission in Pierson Florida featured here in the Orlando Catholic Newspaper.
